PLEASURE BOATING’S ORIGINS ON THE ST-LAWRENCE
Alain Franck
Pleasure boating in Quebec goes back to the middle of the 19th century. At that time, water sports and locally made wooden crafts were in close relation. As well, the growing popularity of sailboat racing brought about the birth of the first yacht clubs in the province. Adding to that, week-end cruising and all types of outings on the water also gained interest and yachting on the St-Lawrence attracted yet more people. The feelings of freedom, the need to connect with nature and the sense of adventure have always been at the heart of boating… from the very beginning.

BOATING IN OUR NATIONAL PARKS AND ON OUR HISTORICAL CANALS
Frédéric Deland and Claude Lavoie
The Saguenay-St-Lawrence Marine Park covers 1,245 square miles of navigable water. It is an exceptional site for its vistas, its unique fjord and its protected whale habitat. To that effect, Parks Canada enforces specific rules for all on the water activities in the park. They are environmental protection measures and it is the park rangers duty to see that they are followed. These rules will be outlined in this presentation as well as the many attractions of our national parks. Parks Canada is also in charge of the historical canals of Canada.

AQUART: UNDERWATER ART GALLERIES!
Fabrice Vanhoutte
Discover the hidden artistic, environmental and sporting sides of a unique underwater event! It is called Aquart Concept and it opens up a whole new way to look at the arts and the environment. See how underwater art galleries in lakes, rivers and even swimming pools are offering a mix of arts and sports to divers and all who love the underwater world. Such a concept of showing art can seem a bit surprising at first. However, many realize that with fins, mask and tuba, it is possible to look at art pieces without the constraints of gravity or other limiting factors such as walls and ceilings. It also opens up a whole new creative dimension for artists who are freed from the usual limitations of conventional galleries. As you’ll see, light effects through water provide by themselves a life of their own to art pieces seen in an underwater setting. Fabrice Vanhoutte who organizes Aquart events invites you to a fantastic voyage in underwater art galleries.

FACING ADVERSITY
Georges Leblanc
I’ll never forget the events that changed my life in September 1998 aboard Thriller. I was doing the pre race run that was required to qualify for the solo race La Route du Rhum. Come on board with me as I relive some of the most intense moments of an Atlantic crossing where joy, fear and suffering were all part of my daily life. The ocean is a hostile environment where man is tolerated at best. I went through hell at times and felt the brush of death at others. Determination, inner strength and a love of life were driving forces that kept me going in this uneven fight.
